Brief Description
In 2016, an ATEX (explosive atmosphere) study for the Sludge Digestion facility at the East Alexandria Wastewater Treatment Plant recommended a series of safety measures for the surrounding area, developed ahead of the facility’s detailed design. Nearly a decade later, with the facility fully designed, built, and operational, CAPW commissioned T&I to reassess the original study against real, as-built conditions.
T&I’s scope covered a full review of the original 2016/2018 ATEX documentation and Environmental & Social Management Plans, on-site inspections and operator interviews to verify current conditions, and updated consequence modelling — using DNV Phast software — across all seven biogas hazard scenarios identified for the facility. The study culminated in a comprehensive reassessment report and an on-site presentation of findings to CAPW and AFD on 19 July 2026, attended by senior leadership from the Alexandria Sanitary Drainage Company (ASDCo) and the Ministry of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities, alongside the facility’s operator, SUEZ.
The engagement reflects T&I’s process safety and risk assessment capabilities within the water and wastewater sector, and its work supporting infrastructure asset owners in translating decade-old risk studies into current, evidence-based guidance.
